Solterbeck Events Environmental Dedication
August 12, 2020
Our purpose is simple: to make sustainability and sustainable events commonplace.
Did you know the average conference attendee produces 1.89kgs of waste per day, 41% of which goes to landfill?* For a 1000-person 3-day event, that is roughly the weight of 4 compact cars. We want to change this.
At Solterbeck Events, we believe operating events should not be at the expense of people or the earth. We have a responsibility to lead the way and showcase what we can do. This is why we have developed Solterbeck Events Environmental Dedication (better known as SEED), an initiative to make conscious decisions every day that have a positive impact on the events industry and our planet. We want to ensure we are doing our bit to contribute to a better world. SEED sets out to decrease our environmental footprint, while increasing our positive social impact.
Our plan has three areas of focus to drive the biggest change and support our mission:
We highlight our capabilities as a company and as individuals through:
- CSR activities – we are dedicating our time quarterly to give back to local communities, including participating in causes such as “Clean Up Australia Day”.
- Office habits – small actions such as turning off power points at the end of each day, buying recycled paper and changing our processes to avoid the use of single-use items.
- Accountability – we’re tracking our progress to keep us on target.
We have a set of standards that we consider for each event, reducing our impact and partnering with brands who do the same. These include, but are not limited to:
- Documents and physical collateral
- Communication methods
There are technologies and enhanced strategies that can be used at events and can only be made possible with the support of our clients:
- CSR programs
Our company, our events, and our partners are the three pillars of SEED – our sustainability response – and we are dedicated to having an impact in day to day practices through to long term planning and investment. This is our commitment to our environment and the world we live in.
